BNP’s newly elected Mayor of Comilla City Corporation Monirul Haque Sakku took oath at the conference room of Prime Minister’s Office at 10:30 am on Thursday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administers oath to mayor Sakku.
Mayor Sakku’s wife Afroza Jasmin and her younger brother Qaimul Haque were present at the ceremony. After taking oath, Mayor Monirul Haque Sakku said in the first light that he will take the responsibility next week. During this time, he sought cooperation of all to complete the unfinished work of City Corporation.
Meanwhile, BSS said that the newly elected councilors of Comilla City Corporation were sworn in at the conference room of the Local Government Division of Bangladesh Secretariat at 12 noon.
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain administered oath to newly elected councilors.
The oath-taking ceremony of local government secretary Abdul Malek was inaugurated by the new mayor of Comilla City Corporation. Monirul Haque, Additional Secretary of the Local Government Division Souravendra Nath Chakraborty and Additional Secretary Mahbub Hossain was also present.
Twenty-nine newly elected councilors, including 22 general seats and 7 members of reserved seats, took oath.
On February 20, the Election Commission announced the schedule of Comilla City Corporation elections and held on March 30. After this, the Gazette of Mayor and Members of the elected mayors published on 20 April.
