The government has not been able to handle the power situation by increasing production of more than three times in last eight years. There is less supply of electricity than demand, except for some big cities including Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Comilla. In view of the situation in the village, it does not seem that there has been any improvement in the situation of electricity.
Although the electricity development board (PDB) does not have significant amount of deficiencies in the accounts, the reality is different. This reality was revealed at the conference of the General Manager of 80 Palli Power Association under the Rural Electrification Board (REB) held on 14 and 15 July. The General Manager (GM) summed up the tragedy of the rural areas in the conference.
Some GM, who are reluctant to disclose the names, said in the light of the day that load shedding can not be stopped in the country due to lack of supply. Besides, the restriction of transmission and distribution system has to be stopped.
According to the PDB, the maximum demand for electricity in the country was 9.5 megawatts on Saturday. The maximum production capacity was 9,640 MW. Therefore, as per the PDB, there is no shortage of electricity or load-shedding in the country yesterday. But our Naogaon correspondent said that the supply of electricity in the district at around 8am yesterday was half as compared to the demand. The demand was 173 megawatts. The supply was 88 megawatts. At that time in Barguna, Rangpur and Jessore our electricity was less than the demand, our representatives said.
